Mutoni Huddah Etania had her dream come true when Wizkid was performing in Uganda. She was to make news as the girl Wizkid pulled out from the crowd to save her from bad touches of Ugandan men. An excited Mutoni broke down and wept. She could not believe her eyes. She had hit two birds with one stone, gotten a close moment with Wizkid and also been saved from the kayoola side of the concert.
Well, all that is now history. Mutoni is no more. The 22 year old was arrested on May 7th in Bangkok Thailand. She was among the 23 Ugandan women who were arrested along Sukhumvit Road on that night. It was on one of the operations the Thailand Police carries out to arrest the many prostitutes on its streets.
Mutoni had been taken to Thailand by a one Saada, a woman that’s popular for human trafficking of Ugandan girls into the popular sex industry of Thailand. Here, Ugandan girls take on different jobs ranging from prostitution, sex escorts, and some are part of the growing porn industry in that country. Unfortunately Saada was also arrested by police and thus could not bail out her girls. A few days back, Saada had been seen around a Kampala night event with some of her girls. She was probably her shortly to take on new recruits.
Back to Mutoni, she was held at the Bangkok International Detention Centre (IDC) where she was required to pay $800 dollars for her to be released and deported home. While in Jail, Mutoni got Pneumonia that she thought was normal cold. Days later, she was pronounced dead. Police in Thailand have reached out to the Ugandan authorities in Thailand but none has details of Mutoni. Some think she illegally acquired a Ugandan passport.
On Instagram, Mutoni flashed a very different life for her followers. She was often seen around various musicians whom she claimed to promote. Some of these included; Beenie Gunter, Sheebah, and even had DJ Roja under her Guntalk label. When asked about her main source of income, she claimed to run an inexistent e-commerce website that sold shoes under her label; ‘Shoes by Etania.’ Unfortunately that website was a cover up for her Thailand trade.
At 22 years of age, Mutoni had hustled her way trying to use the sidewalks instead of ending up on the streets. Her life is now no more. She will be missed by Wizkid who couldn’t do much to save her from prison.
