On Tuesday, the poetry shrine saw Begumya Rushongonza one of best poets Uganda has ever known in a one man show dubbed “We want war” to raise money for a cancer home.
The show that started at 6pm with tickets going for 10k for ordinary and 25k for VIP left the mammoth crowd still yearning for more. He as well launched his collection of poetry where the VIP got the book free. The evening was a curious blend of poetry and the proverbial Jack choosing to put aside work in order to play. This was evidenced with the high flying corporate class that filled the front seats.
“I don’t want to write a poem, I want to write a tank that will lead the masses into state house to demand for the money wr have lost through corruption” recited Rushongoza in one of his many anti-government poems that called for loud cheers and a standing ovation.
Rushongoza commonly known as Rusho is a Muk student offering Law who juggles poetry with the gruelling law classes and is exceptional at both.
He worked with a foundation called Matumaine which mobilises the youth to do charity to raise money for Kyebando cancer home. He also took to his social media accounts where he announced that every single cent would be funneled to the cancer home. The show raised 770k with a pledge of 1 million from social media guru, Muhereza Kyamutetera bringing it to about 1.77million. For Rusho, he believes that we give back to those in need even when we are struggling ourselves. As campus eye team, we are proud of his uncommon gracious act
